What’s 2020 Going to Bring Next?

And the 2020 hits just keep on coming, don’t they? Every morning we seem to wake up to a new crisis, conflict or cause for concern.

What are we to do?
How are we to respond?
Where’s the hope?

Praise be to the Triune God that His mercies are new every morning and that they never come to an end. He meets each day’s fears and foes, bests them with His promises and blesses us with His superabundant gifts in Jesus. Great is His faithfulness! (Lamentations 3:22-23)

With that promise, let’s not quiver in fear.

Nor let us bemoan our 2020 COVID-19 reality, resign ourselves to a dystopian fate and withdraw from the world that God created (but the devil corrupted).

Rather, with the Triune God’s help, let’s jump into the fray and do something bold and beautiful. Let’s confront the spiritual malady, expose it, carry the sick and dying to the hospital of the Church and offer the medicine of the Gospel.

Here’s the hope that we have in Jesus …

  • Where the devil corrupts, the Triune God creates, and recreates, and recreates again.
  • Where the devil kills and destroys, the Triune God resurrects and gives life.
  • Where the devil separates, the Triune God redeems and reconciles.

Doctor’s Orders from the Great Physician …
Repent! Receive! Rejoice! (and repeat)

Jesus, the Great Physician, has diagnosed the spiritual disease afflicting us and our world and He’s given three doctor’s orders (and I’ll add a fourth) …

  • a call to repent (a brutal and honest acknowledgement of sin and a “beggar like” dependence on the Lord Jesus)
  • a call to receive (a bold faith to believe and trust that though we have nothing to offer the Lord Jesus, He has everything to give!)
  • a call to rejoice (a surpassing, surprising and sacred joy given by God that rests in the promise that when you have the forgiveness of sins in Jesus you have … everything!!!)
  • a call to repeat, repeat, repeat (a formation of a set of spiritual habits that makes the reception of the gifts of the Triune God a way of life – The Receptive Life)

Schedule for Fall of 2020

  • On Thursday, October 22nd we’ll start our “GO?”  journey with the “Ten Days of Preparation”. Each day we’ll walk through and study one of the Ten Commandments.
  • Sunday, November 1st will be a day set aside to go to the Lord’s house. During the time of worship we will repent, receive and rejoice in all of the gifts that only the Triune God can give to us. If you do not have a place to worship, you’re welcome to attend worship at East Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Detroit at 10 am. (click here for website)
  • And then, on Monday, November 2nd we’ll begin a 12 week course, process and experience called “The Receptive Life”.

The course and guided tour for the To Whom Shall We Go? Journey will be hosted on a virtual, online learning portal called “eXPlain it”. You can enroll in the Go?virtual bundle by clicking on the button below.
