Part of the site plan for the Lutheran School of Theology is to construct a dedicated church building for the Masai community.
In the past, the staff, students and community surrounding the LST have worshipped in makeshift spaces on the campus (under acaia trees, in classrooms, side rooms of the library).
In the future, Lord willing, Rev. May would like to construct a “cathedral” on the hill of the LST site. It will face east with a clear view toward the Ngong Hills. Above the altar will be written Psalm 121:1-2:
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
The baptismal font will be made out of a big boulder from the LST site and it will be placed at the entrance of the church.
Somehow, Rev. May plans to drill a hole into the rock and have water flowing out of it. It will be a beautiful reminder that Jesus is the Living Water and that from Him flows all of the saving gifts of baptism.
It will also be a “teaching reference”, taken directly from the natural surroundings of the LST campus, that Jesus is the Rock and Foundation on which the Church is built.
