The Triune God Gives Himself to Us Completely
Martin Luther writes that the Triune God gives to us all gifts needed for this life, our salvation, and the eternal life to come. In Christ Jesus, He gives Himself completely (entirely) to us and holds nothing back.
… here we see that God gives Himself entire to us, with all that He has and is able to do, to aid and direct us in keeping the Ten Commandments – the Father, all creatures; the Son, His entire work; and the Holy Ghost, all His gifts.
Large Catechism, Apostles Creed (the Third Article)
In Africa, scarcity kindles prayer and fuels reliance on the Triune God.
The First Article of the Creed gifts that we in the Western world often use without thought of origin or amount (water, daily bread, fields, cattle etc), are sacred reminders for the African Lutherans to “call upon the Lord in every trouble” (Psalm 50) because He is the One who “opens His hands and satisfies the desires of every living thing” (Psalm 145).
Here’s a brief video conversation with Rev. James May, the executive director of Lutherans in Africa, and Dr. Gregory Schulz, a visiting professor.
It provides a tour of the Lutheran School of Theology’s campus and gives ample proof and example of how the Triune God provides all gifts needed … land, water, and rocks … and more rocks … and even more rocks.
