FAQ’s

What does the To Whom Shall We Go journey have to do with the events of 2020?

2020 has revealed a world that is sick, torn apart and ravaged by sin, death and the devil. In days like these, where and to whom shall we go? What is the cure? Where is the healing?

The good news is the worst of the world is met with the best of the Triune God. In the person and work of Jesus we receive all of the gifts that only the Triune God can give! He not only gives life eternal but faith, hope and love for today!

Like the disciples we say,

“Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life!”

(John 6:68)

What’s the core message of the GO journey?

At the heart of this journey are three calls (and a fourth) from God …

  • a call to repent (a brutal and honest acknowledgement of sin and a “beggar like” dependence on the Lord Jesus)
  • a call to receive (a bold faith to believe and trust that though we have nothing to offer the Lord Jesus, He has everything to give)
  • a call to rejoice (a surpassing, surprising and sacred joy given by God that rests in the promise that when you have the forgiveness of sins in Jesus you have … everything!!!)
  • a call to repeat, repeat, repeat (a formation of a spiritual “habitus” – set of habits – that makes the reception of the gifts of the Triune God a way of life – The Receptive Life)

What are three parts of the GO journey? When does each begin?

The GO journey is made up of three parts. Together, they will point you to the person and work of Jesus and teach you how to live, not just a day, but a life of repentance – a life spent receiving and rejoicing in all of the gifts that only the Triune God can give.

Here’s the itinerary and dates:

  • Ten Days with 10 Commandments(starts Thursday, October 22nd).
  • A Day Set Aside to Repent, Receive and Rejoice in the House of God(East Bethlehem Lutheran Church has set aside Sunday, November 1st)
  • A 12 week virtual course starting on Monday, November 2nd, called The Receptive Life. This virtual process and experience will help you learn where to find and how to receive all of the gifts that only the Triune God can give.

What does the GO virtual experience look like?

My role is both “teacher” and “guide”. The virtual courses in the GO journey don’t just deliver content. They provide an experiential and guided tour through the “territory”. It’s also a communal experience. Through ZOOM, virtual “live” lessons and community forums we’ll learn together.

Each virtual experience consists of …

  • an easy to use and accessible virtual learning platform
  • content delivered through multiple mediums:  video, audio, written, PDF
  • virtual and “live” sessions via ZOOM that support the content and answer questions (recorded for those who cannot attend the “live” sessions)
  • community forums for group discussion

How can I access the content?

All of the content and ZOOM calls will be hosted on a virtual platform called “eXPlain it” (click here). I created this online and virtual resource to help you understand how the person and work of Jesus is revealed in all of the Scriptures.

The link below will take you to the “eXPlain it” online portal. When you get to the “eXPlain it” portal look for “To Whom Shall We Go?” bundle.

  • enter your email when prompted
  • create a password
  • and enroll

Do you recommend any resources?

The three main resources I’ll be referencing are:  the Scriptures, Martin Luther’s Small Catechism and his Large Catechism.

I’ll be using a “public domain” version of Luther’s Small and Large Catechisms. Admittedly, the translation is a bit archaic but the content is freely accessible. Other modern translations are available and are well worth the investment.

You can click on each of the links to gain access to these resources.

What’s the content schedule for the Ten Days with the 10 Commandments

  • Thursday, 10/22: The 1st Commandment … no other gods
  • Friday, 10/23: The 2nd Commandment … call upon me
  • Saturday, 10/24: The 3rd Commandment … don’t neglect the Triune God’s gifts
  • Sunday, 10/25: The 4th Commandment … honor the three “estates”
  • Monday, 10/26: The 5th Commandment … help don’t harm
  • Tuesday, 10/27: The 6th Commandment … purity
  • Wednesday, 10/28: The 7th Commandment … improve and protect
  • Thursday, 10/29: The 8th Commandment … build up, don’t tear down
  • Friday, 10/30: The 9th and 10th Commandments … contentment
  • Saturday, 10/31: The Close of the Commandments

When are the ZOOM meetings and how can I access the links?

The “live” ZOOM meetings will meet each day at 7pm (EST).

You can access the links directly from the Ten Days course curriculum. A module in the left hand column is designated “ZOOM Calls”. Just open the window, click the link at 7pm (EST) and you’ll be able to join.

What is the difference between the content covered in the “live” ZOOM  meetings and the video/PDF content already loaded in the course curriculum?

The subject material for the ZOOM meetings and the video content/PDF’s will be the same. For example, the Day One ZOOM meeting and the Day One pre-loaded video content/PDF will both address the 1st Commandment.

But … and here’s the difference … the ZOOM “live” meetings will allow me to talk about the material in a relational and dynamic way. Think of it as a personal and tailored tour through the material. The ZOOM meetings will allow you to ask specific questions about the Commandments and I can respond to those questions in “real time”.

Here’s a simple summary:

  • same material
  • different modes of presentation (static video vs. fluid conversation)
  • new insights.

What if I can’t attend the live scheduled ZOOM meetings?

No worries. I plan on recording the virtual “live” meetings and hosting them in the curriculum content. One of the benefits of a digital class is that the materials are “evergreen”. As long as you have internet, you’ll be able to access the content anytime, anywhere.

Can I join after Thursday, October 22nd?

Yes you can! You’ll miss some of the “live” ZOOM meetings along the way but you can watch the recording.

Can you give me a video tour?

Sure! Watch the video below.
